Topic > Title V of the Social Security Act - 1589

Sexual education and abstinence-only programs in public schools here in the United States have been a highly controversial topic among both parents and education officials for many years. Many questions have arisen from this controversial topic of whether or not abstinence-only programs actually help reduce teen pregnancies; prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases; or are providing teens with the health knowledge they will need to know about their sex lives in the future. Sexual education seems, after studies and debates, to be the most effective method to help these problems. In the fall of 2016, if Democrats are in power, the result will be passage of the bill amending Title V of the Social Security Act to eliminate abstinence-only education programs. Therefore, the billions of dollars in funding for abstinence-only programs currently could be used to improve sex education in U.S. public schools. called the “Repeal of the Ineffective and Incomplete Abstinence-Related Program Funding Act of 2011.” This act is submitted to the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Committee on Appropriations for consideration. (“HR1085 to amend Title V of the Social Security Act to eliminate the abstinence-only education program” 1-7). If the Pg2 Democrats remain in office through fall 2016, this bill will pass. Therefore, abstinence-only programs will be banned and replaced by sex education programs in public schools across the United States. The result is positive, decreasing teenage pregnancies and helping to inform teenagers about the risks they may face in their sexual lives...... half of the document ......orts/abstinence.pdf>.“Dan L' Abrams' abstinence-only education doesn't work."
