You only think about its convenience and how tasty it is but have you ever wondered how it is made and how it affects you? Fast food is made with high levels of sodium and fat, keeping people coming back for more. Fast food is a bigger part of the American diet than you might think. These frequently consumed meals lead to many negative effects on us, including health problems, a poor environment and social problems. People around the world suffer from obesity and heart disease, two of the leading causes of death today. Every breath you take may contain polluted air from chemicals used to make fast food packaging. Yet despite all this negativity towards fast food, they have the upside of bringing in money for the US economy. So, with fast food consumption comes not only negative aspects but also positive ones. Today, fast food has played an important role in American health. Obesity is now a major global health problem in people of all ages. More than two-thirds of adults and about one-fifth of all children are now overweight or obese. One in three Americans suffers from obesity and it is mainly caused by the unhealthy foods that people consume on a daily basis. Fast food contains high levels of sugar and fat, which are the main causes of obesity. Calories are absorbed from these fats and sugars, and when they are not burned, they are stored as extra fat, causing many to become overweight.
