It all started with a blind date gone well. My sisters and I were throwing a party and my sister, Mildered, was going out with a man named Regis. When the party began and Regis and his friends arrived, Regis no longer spoke calmly. It was me. Even though he was four years older than me, we started dating, it was great. We had been dating for about two years when Regis came to my house and told me the news. I clearly remember that it was a sunny September day and we had planned to go to the park for a picnic with our friends. When I opened the door I knew something was wrong. "Everything is fine?" I asked. He gave a light sigh and then asked if we could go and sit on the swing. When we were both on the swing, he spoke in a very solemn voice and said, “Mary Rita, I got a letter today, it was from the United States Army. I was drafted into the Army. I have to report for duty in exactly five days." All I could do was nod and say we could do it.
