"Lost Illusion is the secret title of every novel." Andre Maurois comments that within each novel there is a sense of lost dreams and unattainable goals. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" sparked much controversy as to why he chose it as the title of his novel. “The Great Gatsby” demonstrates the deception of how the main character Jay Gatsby showed his greatness by attempting to achieve Daisy's goal, but failing miserably in his attempt to recreate the past and bring about his own death. Gatsby showed his greatness by achieving fame, fortune, and trying to win over Daisy. The extravagant parties and glamorous cars that Gatsby made throughout his life served to impress Daisy and see if she would fall in love with him again.
