Topic > Types of Speakers - 920

There are two types of speakers, electrostatic and electromagnetic, these two speakers have different appearances and qualities. The use depends on the buyer, but if you don't know what the pros and cons are, buying one might be difficult. Electrostatic speakers use a thin flat diaphragm, usually made of a sheet of plastic coated with a conductive material such as graphite sandwiched between two electrically conductive grilles, with a small air gap between the diaphragm and grilles. For this speaker to operate without distortion, there needs to be a constant charge running through the speaker rather than a constant voltage. The grids must be able to generate a stable electric field, while still allowing sound to pass through the stator plates (Grilles). To generate sufficient field strength, the audio signal on the grids must be high voltage. The electrostatic construction is effectively a capacitor, and current is only needed to charge the capacitance created by the diaphragm and stator plates. This type of speaker is therefore a high impedance device. Unlike modern electromagnetic cone speakers, it is a low-impedance device, with higher current requirements. The advantages of electrostatic speakers include distortion levels that are one to two orders of magnitude lower than traditional cone drivers in a box, the extremely light weight of the diaphragm which is run across its entire surface. Since many electrostatic speakers are tall and thin without an enclosure, they act as a vertical dipole line source. This results in rather different acoustic behavior in rooms compared to conventional electromagnetic loudspeakers. In general, a large panel dipole ra...... middle of paper ...... other distorts the sound and in the worst case can sound like skipping the song/sound. The best speaker that has been compared, between the two the best speaker should be the electromagnetic speaker. This is because not only because the cost is cheaper to replace and buy this speaker but also based on the quality of the sound it produces compared to the electrostatic one. Electrostatics lose out in producing sound because if there are too many vibrations the outer casing can easily break and expose the electric plates which if touched can cause harmful damage. Electrostatic speakers are better than the appeal of electrostatics. The magnetic speakers are very nice and produce a huge amount of sound and bass! These speakers can be placed anywhere to produce the desired sound quality wherever you need to place them.
