As a child, parents taught their children about achieving certain goals in life, such as getting A's in school, being accepted into an Ivy League college, having a respected career , having a secure income, living in a two-story house, marrying the love of your life, having well-rounded children, basically living the American dream with the perfect family, will make us happy. The truth is that even achieving all of these things listed above has nothing to do with happiness. The Oxford English Dictionary defined the word happiness as “the quality or condition of being happy”; It seems easy enough to define, but happiness isn't just “being happy.” If the word were so easily interpreted, many people would not misuse it in different contexts or scenarios. Happiness is different from happy moments. Even though the word happiness is debatable, it is ultimately what everyone tries to achieve. What would happen if you achieved a big goal you set for yourself? Would you feel elated? How many seconds, minutes, hours or even days will you feel happy? For most of us, the euphoric feeling won't last long. Maybe the longest we will stay happy will be a month or sometimes more. It's not that your goal lost its meaning, but the simple fact that you were happy because the joy of achieving your goal and the feeling of being happy faded. Once the feeling wears off, the next goal and the next outcome are in motion. Humans rarely feel completely satisfied with where they are in life and when they feel happy when a certain situation occurs, it doesn't last too long it's because people are always looking for the next goal to pursue. This...... middle of paper......work progresses to reach a stage where one can focus on oneself and see the bigger picture, as an adventure and experiences. The only secret to truly achieving happiness has nothing to do with setting goals or achieving them. To get your definition of happiness, first, be more optimistic and have a positive outlook on all opportunities and don't look for "happy moments", because "happy moments" can only last so long. All in all, happiness means appreciating every single moment for all it has to offer and adding personal values and purpose to your life. All of this might make it difficult to achieve happiness, but the bright side is that happiness can be created in any situation. There are many stories of people who face difficulties in their life, but would still find happiness in their family, faith and career, and the difficulties don't seem so difficult after all.
