For my Psychology Interview Assignment, I had the privilege of interviewing Elaine, who is the principal of Kindergarten X, which is an educational institution. He reports having been in this position for 13 years since its inception. Elaine is a close friend of my aunt, and that's how I was able to meet her. He explained that his responsibilities include; hiring of all school related staff, submission of criminal background checks, medical reports of all staff and children need to be updated and also a curriculum has been developed for teachers to carry out. Holds parent meetings and deals with parents on a daily basis. For any issues that arise, Elaine talks to parents at least once or twice a week. Hold weekly staff meetings regarding the curriculum. She also serves as an educational event coordinator, where she "invites people from the dinosaur museum or pond park to come to her preschool, to enrich the children." o Hiring and Selection Process Elaine explained to me that she submitted her resume, the board reviewed her credentials, and she also had to submit three letters of recommendation and was interviewed by the school board. Elaine said the reason she did well — getting hired — was “based on past experience, recommendations from several people within the school system, and my credentials.” She believes the most important factors in getting hired in today's market are "credentials, education and personality." o Workplace Stressors Elaine says that disputes between parents and teachers are a stressor at work, even when teachers are absent, because she has to find an available replacement. “Parents who fail to fulfill medical obligations in order to remain in the middle of a sheet of paper to draw attention to problems since they otherwise would not find out about it. Elaine said she would like the management to visit the school more often so they can see the progress as well as any small problems that are sometimes encountered in a school environment. He would like to share that he would like more meetings with management to keep them updated at least once a month. His management approach is to be empathetic, organised, open and confident in his beliefs, always trying to be helpful. For example, the school curriculum is changing, so he needs to remove current games and toys to comply with the new curriculum. “Teachers are frustrated, so I help them so they don't feel overwhelmed and can evolve slowly.” My presence and direction ease their worries. I am always there to educate them on any new obstacles they need to overcome.
