I chose Chasing Lincoln's Assassin because I remember meeting Lincoln as a child and always enjoyed meeting him. Since I already knew how Lincoln died, I thought it would be interesting to learn about the killer. I also didn't find any other book that seemed to grab my attention like this one. The book takes you day by day through John Wilkes Booth's escape after killing Abraham Lincoln. Throughout the book Booth seems to get away with a lot. Many people help him in his escape journey without knowing what he has done. Booth had received word that the President would be at Ford's Theater. This was great news for John: both Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln will be there in the same place. “Booth learned the great news: in just eight hours the man who was the object of all his hatred and plot would ascend the same stone steps where he now sat. “Booth began to justify his assassination without having to hunt down Lincoln. John had a deep hatred for Lincoln, he hated the state our country was in. Booth had made his way into the theater and into the box where the President sat. He pulled out his gun and knife. He had shot Lincoln while the theater roared with laughter so no one could see the booth. The bullet had hit Lincoln in the brain but had not killed him. Booth quickly stabs Lincoln before escaping by jumping out of the box. Booth ran onto the stage and yelled "sic semper tyrannis" and also yelled "the South is avenged." Sic Semper Tyrannis therefore always means tyrants. While everyone in the theater was scared, everyone tried to hold the booth as he ran away from the theater. While all this was going on, the two men who agreed to help Booth approached Sew... middle of paper... for a gun. The Garret family had no idea which criminals they had harbored. The Garretts hosted both men another night where he asked John Garrett to deceive the union man. But the commander threatened to set fire to the stable. Herold had given up and told Booth he was done. Booth gave him permission to leave and he did. Booth wanted his weapons first. Twenty-eight men had threatened to leave or they would drag him out. Booth wasn't afraid of dying, he was debating killing himself or dying in the fire while the barn was burning. Corbett had come into the barn to see what Booth was doing. He began to feel that his life was being threatened and fired a shot that lodged Booth in the throat and killed him. The entire country was relieved that Booth was dead. No one wanted Booth buried in their cemetery. His body was given to his family and buried.
