No one would ever think that a small country could create a controversy known throughout the world, but North Korea achieved this goal. The North Korean genocide caused the deaths of 2000 people the day before and these killings were due to starvation and beatings. Many people think that communism is better than a democracy, but it has its flaws. For example, North Korea is communist and whatever the leader's beliefs, the communist citizen must believe. What is happening and has happened is genocide. Japan was imperializing from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Korea was a Japanese colony. After World War II the Japanese had to get rid of the colony. North Korea became communist. South Korea wanted to be democratic. North Korea subsequently crossed the 38th parallel and entered South Korea. The United States responded by asking the United Nations to help South Korea. The United Nations did so and pushed North Korea so far back that it struck the northern tip of China. China went to war to protect its borders. At the end of the war they were back to where they were at the beginning. Neither side won. Between 1992 and 1995, North Korea did many good things. On BBC News Asia it says that North Korea got involved in the United Nations and they agreed to suspend the nuclear weapons program to those who did good, but then there was a huge flood that created a food shortage, this was also on BBC Asia. In 2002 BBC Asia claimed that nuclear tension had increased in North Korea and the United States. The communist nation of North Korea controls the religious beliefs of the citizens, so they must believe in jushe, which is a belief they must look to the North Korean leaders for.
