Ct. 1297 Facts: A Wyoming police officer conducted a routine traffic stop in which David Young was the driver and Houghton and another companion were passengers. During the traffic stop, officers noticed a syringe in Young's front shirt pocket. When questioned by the officer, the young man admitted to the officers that the syringe was used to take drugs. The officer then searched the car and its compartments in which he found a bag belonging to Houghton which he admitted was his. Officers then searched the bag and located drug paraphernalia and the defendant was arrested on drug charges. In court the defendant was denied a motion to suppress all evidence because he claimed it was obtained from an illegal search, finding that the officers had no probable cause to search the car or any container with the car that may have contained smuggling.
