New terror technologies and their increasing mobility are improving every day. Many types of warfare aim to eliminate large numbers of people, and some even aim to eliminate specific individuals. The specific technique I will focus on is called biological warfare. Biological warfare is a type of warfare that targets specific people or an entire specific country. When biological warfare is used, it is usually a substance with which to harm others through immediate death or death by exposure. The substance is usually used within a confined space for maximum exposure of victims of the gas, disease or radiation. Biological warfare usually kills people on the spot or has long-term effects that haunt the victim for their entire life. Biological warfare dates back to 400 BC, when the Spartan Greeks used high acid sulfur fumes against British enemy soldiers, which were very effective at that time, so this technique was used very often in this time period. In 1914, during World War I, poisonous gas was released which was also very effective, there were over 100,000 deaths and 900,000 casualties as the cause of this poisonous gas. Although the potential for nuclear annihilation has been reduced with the end of the cold war, America still faces attacks with weapons of mass destruction. Since the United States now has a military advantage over its old enemies, concern for nuclear deterrence should take a backseat to protection against small terrorist attacks involving biological weapons. Biological weapons have catastrophic lethal potential and are easy to make and hide. America's defensive measures, however, should continue to improve to protect themselves and Britain.
