I am fortunate to have realized my faith in God early in my life and life experiences have only strengthened my faith; I was born and raised in a small town in India and my elementary through university education took place in a Christian and Catholic school, Convent of Jesus & Mary, a congregation founded by Mother Claudine Thevnet who wanted to undertake the education of girls in India. It was at school that I first experienced an introduction to Christianity and my family, being Hindu, resonated with many of the common values taught at school. Since there was no conflict between the values learned at school and those at home, they were only deepened and became an important part of my personality. As a result of my upbringing and upbringing, memories of my faith are among my earliest. I believe in the presence of God and I believe that God has bigger plans for me. My upbringing and family have embedded in me values for respect, acceptance and understanding of other members of society. Hinduism taught me how to be respectful and tolerant towards others, it taught me that I must understand that I am a human being and that I am here to serve and help others in need. There have been times when when faced with difficult challenges in life and followed the path laid out by God, the ignorance disappeared and I found solutions and answers to the problems and challenges I faced. I am very respectful, tolerant and accepting of others and am open to understanding different points of view. I believe that my spirituality plays an important role in who I am as a human being, my school and life experiences have instilled in me a burning love for God and others, making me an ethically aware, socially responsible and spiritually integrated person . .... middle of paper ...... this for me and a great learning for my family as I would like to see my children be able to reflect on this. Now that I am a parent, I feel responsible for teaching my children these too, and the most effective way to teach children values is when we live them. Attention to the individual, underlining the dignity of each individual. After moving to Bismarck from India, in times of distress I found comfort by visiting church with my neighbor who was kind enough to let me go with her. My goal then was to pray and be able to connect to God and find peace. For me what matters most is to be close to God, what matters most is that I should connect to God and be able to reach Him. Humility brings us a perspective that brings out other Benedictine values. If you want I participate in temple activities since my life is completely intertwined with prayer.
