Hundreds of thousands of innocent Japanese citizens died at the hands of the atomic bomb dropped by the United States, as recounted in John Hersey's novel Hiroshima. Hiroshima chronicles the devastation through the six survivors who had to experience the horrendous attack and the exhausting long-term side effects of the attack. The United States thought it was protecting Japan from further harm, but instead caused terrible destruction that Japan would face for years to come. The United States began developing the potentially deadly atomic bomb during the war. to destroy his enemies. After completing the construction of the most dangerous weapon. The United States tested the bomb in a desert field in Trinity, New Mexico. Brigadier Thomas F. Farrell was there to witness the test and told everyone about the bomb: "The effects could be called unprecedented, magnificent, beautiful, stupendous and terrifying. No man-made phenomenon of such tremendous power had ever occurred before the illumination begged description" (Brigadier Thomas F. Farrell Trinity Test eyewitness accounts). Despite knowing this information, the United States still decided to drop the bomb on Japan. Without even thinking about who they would have devastated, above all...... middle of paper...... The States should not have dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. Because they inflicted wounds on Japan that will never heal, as told in the final chapter of Hiroshima. If the United States had not dropped the atomic bomb on Japan, hundreds of thousands of lives of innocent Japanese citizens could have been saved, including Japan's future generations.
