Human; relating to or having characteristics of a person (Merriam-Webster). A human being is really just a soul combined with characteristics of other people, and this is demonstrated by Jenna Fox; the main character of The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary Pearson. After discovering what her body is made of, Jenna along with other characters think she is not human. Despite this, Jenna Fox has always had the key elements needed to be a human being. Jenna for example has a past and memories that make up her life even after the accident. More importantly, it is unfair to call her a “monster” when she displays similar characteristics to other humans. It goes without saying that Jenna, just like any other human, is not perfect, and later learns that to be one hundred percent human she must have the same chance of success in life as any other human. Jenna Fox is human because she has a soul despite her differences. Jenna has a past and memories that make her up independently of Jenna before the accident. Memories are vital because they constitute an identity and every human being has an identity. After waking up from a coma, Jenna doesn't know her identity, leading her to think she's not human. As Jenna began to remember who she once was, Jenna molded her old personality. Jenna shows this when she asks Lily for help and Lily says, “Why are you telling me and not your parents? I'm surprised you ask me that. Are you testing me? We both know the answer. Because I always have” (Pearson 186). Jenna's identity makes her who she is. He remembered the close bond he once had with Lily and regained a small part of Jenna Fox's identity. More importantly, Jenna realizes that she still has the same memories as before... middle of paper... she finally realized that her daughter was a human being and was born to make mistakes. Jenna proves that she is a human being because she possesses the most important elements of a human being. Because of the three key human elements that Jenna Fox displays throughout the book, she can be considered human. Jenna is shown to have memories; an essential element in deciding your identity. Jenna demonstrates that human characteristics are an element that guarantees that she is not a robot. The last key element that Jenna ultimately demonstrates is the element of being unique and proving that she has the same chance of success as any other human being. All these elements combine to form a human being, and no matter how many artificial body parts one may have with these elements, they are a real human being. Even though you are different from everyone else, you can still be considered human, as demonstrated by Jenna Fox.
