An advantage of using a case study is the information they are able to provide regarding rare or unusual conditions in specific individuals. By studying these individuals, psychologists are able to collect data on phenomena unique to psychology and formulate hypotheses that can be tested in the future (Cozby & Bates, 2012). Another benefit of using case studies is that they can provide such detailed results. Instead of simply conducting an experiment and leaving participants after a short period of time, case studies involve staying with participants for a long period of time.
