Schizoid Personality Disorder is a psychotic mental disorder that shows detachment from society and being against social norms. Most people with this disorder do not like to talk or interact with people and rarely participate in group activities. There are many characteristics and criteria to determine the diagnosis of this disorder. Throughout the diagnostic process there are tests to evaluate the individual, and once the individual is diagnosed, there is a treatment process to reduce the effects of this disorder. There are many characteristics of people diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder. The characteristics are based on the fact that these people do not associate with others, and when they do, it is very rare. An example of this would be when family comes to visit us for a holiday; a person with schizoid personality disorder does not associate with anyone and tries to stay away from crowds. Other characteristics of people with this disorder include that they are usually oblivious to social issues and self-centered. This makes it difficult for them to understand how to interact with others because they have no interest in it. Other important characteristics of schizoids are that they usually do not experience strong emotions such as anger, joy and sadness. This is because criticism and approval do not influence them as they do not care how society views them. Which makes it difficult for them to feel strong emotions. Because there are levels of severity for this disorder, some diagnosed may not have the same isolation from society as others. There is no one type of schizoid personality disorder as it varies from case to case. These characteristics can be found in people who are diagnosed. Before they are diagnosed... middle of paper...... their treatment method, they don't even bother asking for help and choose to continue their lives as they have been. Schizoid personality disorder affects your social life, professional life, and yourself. These people will not have close relationships with family, friends and co-workers. They may be seen as loners, as they do not like to associate with anyone and work best when socially isolated. The main characteristics of people with this disorder are that they show little or no emotion and have no close friends. With treatment the effects of this disorder may be reduced, but most do not take the next step in treatment. This is a disorder that affects your personality and the way you form relationships with people. Although it is a rare psychotic disorder, about 4% of people have been diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder.
