Topic > My personal team journey to achieve the goal at hand

When engaging with others on a team, communication is a double-sided coin. On one side of the coin, working with others in a group can be engaging, fun, exciting, and a little easier when it comes to individual workload. So when you flip the coin it can be the exact opposite. Dealing with others in a team/could be a nightmare, a nightmare in the sense that team members don't make individual assessments, don't communicate that they have bad attitudes, competitiveness, just being a slacker overall. Unfortunately, these are the risks we face when we join a team for group projects. This essay will discuss my personal team journey, behaviors, issues, influences, leadership, problem solving, effectiveness as a team, and overall team communications to achieve the goal at hand. In 2010 I worked in Northwest Washington DC as an assistant property manager for a large apartment complex with over 400 apartments. This community was a very upscale community with rent ranging from $1010 to $2200 a month. We planned events monthly; needless to say, any event held for our residents had to be the best of the best. One summer the Property Manager wanted to throw a pool party for the residents. The Prime Minister gave a budget of $3000 and put me in charge of the entire event. I made my personal game plan for the event, then gathered my small group/team of three leasing reps, Misha, Trever, and Lisa, and began planning my first event where I was the leader (219( 9)). Of course this is when I really started to understand and learn how my team would collaborate and clash at the same time. We, as a small group or secondary team, were assigned the task by my boss to organize a pool party to... .... middle of paper ......work or wrap gifts, because if If I started showing a negative attitude, my team would too (251(10) ). To some in the group I may have shown a lack of leadership when I didn't confront Misha at the beginning about his comments about me, however, the event was a success. So ultimately my choice as leader was the right one at that time. I finally confronted her about her comment; but before I could say anything he told me I had done a great job and handed me a small gift basket. I told her thank you and then told her I knew the same day she spoke to our boss. Then I said that I hadn't addressed it before because I didn't want to start any problems in our group, especially when I'm in charge of this project. Our interaction was back and forth (252/10). Her face was priceless, but in the end the pool party was a success and everyone was on good terms.
