Geeks Will Inherit the Earth is a book by Alexandra Robbins that summarizes the story of seven different teenagers who have many different problems, which many teenagers today also have. I found myself having many similarities with the teenagers in the story, for example, when with her group Whitney, the popular bitch, thinks “You didn't do this when we were alone, but now that you're in front of a group you do ” (Robbins 21). I can relate to this because I feel like a lot of people are pressured into saying or doing things they wouldn't normally do whenever they are with their group or "clique". Robbins has this idea that freaks and geeks, or the "cafeteria fringe", will one day grow up and use what they are criticized for to be more successful than others. She calls it "Quirk Theory" (Robbins page 11). This helped me understand that right now, in high school, not being "popular" may seem like the end of the world, but the reality is that after these four years, it won't even matter anymore, but what will matter is how you learned to grow as a person and the true friendships that were made. This makes me want to focus more on my education and learn to grow as a person instead of focusing on how many friends I have or who I sit at lunch with, because it honestly won't matter once I finish high school. The seven different people Robbins talks about include Blue (the gamer), Regan (the weird girl), Whitney (the popular bitch), Noah (the band geek), Eli (the nerd), Danielle (the loner), and Joy ( the new girl). The stories he explains for each of these people involve part of the quirk theory. It gives each of them a challenge to remove them from their comfort zones, this helps each of them learn... middle of paper ......
