Dell Zheng 80224 March 2014 Social StudiesSocial Studies Exit Project Draft In the early and mid-1900s, there were several moments in American history when we feared that our democracy would been overtaken by communism influence and infiltrated by communist groups. These two events were labeled the Red Scare, a period in which the “reds”; or communists, they were feared to take an active participation and role within our democratic government. The first Red Scare occurred at the beginning of 1919-1924 after the First World War, while the second Red Scare occurred after the Second World War between 1947 and 1954. Both events, although occurring in two totally different eras, they brought effects that would impact American society for several future generations and would impact the treatment of racial prejudice against those who carried communist beliefs and believed in a supremacist government. There were several causes towards the Red Scare of the 1920s. , and how it had aroused suspicion towards communism. This red alert lasted for almost 5 years until the US economy finally began to improve after the disastrous World War I. The main reason for the first Red Scare was the Russian Revolution. In conclusion, it could evidently be seen that the Red Scare had many causes and effects, some of which lasted for generations and influenced generations to come. It created a period of fear and terror about the influence of communism and how it would affect American relations with Russia. The Red Scare would lead to one of the longest “invisible” wars between America, democracy, and Russia, communism. It would create one of the most technologically advanced generations in which both countries have competed for more powerful weapons and military might. At the same time, it was also a Renaissance in which the greatest minds were sought after by the government.
