Peter Brook's film and William Golding's novel Lord of the Flies demonstrate the evil within, the corruption of power and the immaturity of youth. The book and film projected these political and social themes. One of the main themes presented in Lord of the Flies is the evil within oneself. An example of this theme is Piggy's murder. In the film there is a scene where Roger is standing next to a huge rock and Piggy is underneath it. Roger purposely pushed the rock down to kill Piggy. Roger wanted to get rid of Piggy because he was against Jack. This shows the evil inside Roger and that he had the courage to kill Piggy. It also describes that the boys have become evil and are unwilling to resolve things without violence. Another piece of evidence that represents this theme is Simon's death. Simon was returning after discovering that the boys had been wrong about the beast. The boys saw it and thought it was the beast. The boys began to sing their song: “Kill the beast! Cut his throat!
