Topic > Filming at Dawson College in Montreal: Kimveer Gill

On September 13, 2006, Kimveer Gill woke up and was determined to go from nobody to someone, and fast. Dressed all in black, he entered Dawson College in Montreal and started shooting. He faced some psychological issues, which contributed to his violent tendencies. Furthermore, from an anthropological point of view, Gill had unlimited access to the media, which exposed him to a dangerous community of people. Finally, as a young man, Gill faced many sociological challenges. Kimveer Gill committed acts of violence due to many factors that led him to lash out in depression and hatred. First, there were psychological reasons why Kimveer Gill started shooting. Growing up, he was never successful with women. As a result, he developed an unhealthy obsession with women. He began visiting strip clubs, having sex online and paying prostitutes. Gill has not been able to connect with women in real life, so he becomes addicted to viewing explicit content and sees women as objects. He has a distorted perception of women, leaving him with a lot of hatred for them. Gill experienced a lack of purpose in his daily life. Every morning he woke up with nowhere to be, no one to see and nothing to do. He was left alone for a long time, giving him so much time to dwell on all the wrong things in his life. He began drinking excessively, becoming mentally depressed and had a gun. Not a good combination. After a life in hiding in high school, he was tired of being the last person on everyone's list and the one everyone forgets. From being someone who lacked confidence, his craving for attention began to take its toll. He didn't care how it attracted attention. He just wanted to be known. Overall he wasn't one to stand out. He was always middle of paper, but due to his lack of confidence and depression he failed in everything he tried. At that point he felt rejected by everyone. He had very few friends when he was in high school and as the group grew up, they moved on with their lives. His friends walked away from him, leaving him alone. He turned to the negative side of finding friends, which was online connections. In reality Gill was literally alone. He had no one to speak to verbally who could understand him. Males cause the majority of violent crimes, and Gill was male. This is not a shocking thing when it comes to the history of criminals. Kimveer Gill lived at home with his ailing parents. His mother was dealing with lung cancer and his father was recovering from a heart attack. Because of this, Gill found it very easy to hide things from them and they never suspected anything wrong with their son.
