The definition of media is “the principal means of mass communication”. This mass communication usually occurs through television, radio, newspapers and the Internet. The media has also had an effect on society through its communication. It has both a social effect and a political effect on society. The media can have many positive effects; such as increasing the spread of information, while the media can also have negative effects, such as influencing public opinion or causing the public to believe statements or arguments. The media has also served many other purposes, such as providing emergency help or committing illegal scams to people on the Internet or any media device commonly used today. The media took part in the war through the use of misleading information, otherwise known as propaganda. By using propaganda, the media can gain supporters for a war cause. An example of this is the United States' portrayal of Iranians. The media for various reasons described them as uncivilized terrorists. This conclusion is based on inferences and is not supported by the evidence needed to prove this claim, therefore classifying this accusation as propaganda. Another example of propaganda is during World War II. Posters depicting Japanese soldiers showed them as evil and immoral soldiers. Posters like these had “confirmed” the suspicions that civilians had about enemy soldiers. Propaganda posters like these had gained supporters for a war cause by “demonizing” the enemy. Propaganda was used in major wars and battles. More precisely, Alexander the Great was the first to use propaganda in war. While retreating from a battle, Alexander knew that his army would appear weak and small. So, Alexander had left… half the paper… support for good causes. In conclusion, the media has had several effects on society. It has brought many benefits to society, such as increased awareness about important topics, disasters, or information. The media also has negative effects, such as cyberbullying or political bias. In any case, the media is an important part of society. It can support or oppose an argument, depending on which side is writing the article. The media has always deceived the public, no matter what point they try to convey. The media can be truthful and informative, or just the opposite: lying and deceptive. The media has contributed to society in many ways, both positive and negative. The media has been around since the first newspaper was printed in Rome in 59 BC, and will continue to inform, deceive and convince the public as long as there is information that can be disseminated..
