The hours are long and the work is high pressure. The job requires complex responsibilities and decision-making processes. The needs of the animal and those of the owner do not always overlap perfectly and decisions regarding treatment must be made by best balancing the needs of both. In this way, veterinarians act as guardians of both human and animal well-being. My passion is to play an active role in improving the lives of both my animal patients and their human owners. By doing this I believe I will be able to fulfill my commitment to helping animals, born from the devastation I experienced in Japan. I have not yet narrowed my interest to a specific field of veterinary medicine. I want to remain open to exploring the wide range of medical practices that I will be exposed to in veterinary school and that I can eventually use to impact the quality of life of both humans and animals. My high academic achievements, understanding of the profession, personal experiences and drive to impact the quality of life of both humans and animals are all qualities that make me an excellent candidate for the veterinary profession
