Wuthering Heights is a quarantined building in the hills of the West Riding of Yorkshire. “Wuthering Heights is the name of Mr. Heathcliff's home 'Wuthering' being a significant provincial adjective, descriptive of the atmospheric turmoil to which his station is exposed in the event of a storm" (Emily Bronte pg.2). From the beginning of the novel , the description of the house seemed very dark, cloudy and strange. The house was positioned where thunder, snow and rain could hit. The setting (including nature) is influential for the reader because it gives an understanding of the characters and a total understanding of the novel. Tempestuous is a symbol of the distinctive emotion, which is the dominant force in Bronte's novel, a force that will harm, twist and harm anyone who encounters it. it's a wind blowing hard with a roaring sound. This image serves as a metaphor that people, money, emotions, love etc... will be in danger if they don't hold on of love, a different and strange love. Emotions and love in this novel turn out to be very violent, brutal and ruthless just like the storm. The moorland setting created a home that seemed remote from society and the rest of the world. This provided a perfect staging for the strange, bizarre, amusing, bizarre and sometimes spooky events that were revealed in the… middle of the paper… a source of little visible, but necessary pleasure” (Bronte 60) . Her love for Linton was not as deep and strong as the love she had for Heathcliff. Love, nature and setting all have a middle ground, or rather a dark and strange middle ground. Triangular love is often described through nature metaphors. Although the title of the novel was the most important feature that gave the characters their traits, Emily Bronte included two points to make the novel more interesting. The two families were separated by the cold, murky, dark and desolate moors of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. Both houses have different morals and values. Wuthering Heights represents wild nature. On the other hand, Thrushcross Grange and the Linton family represent culture, refinement, settlement and education. It didn't take long for Wuthering Heights to take over Thrushcross Grange.
