Entire places were lost and destroyed, resulting in placelessness. One example given in the reading involved non-indigenous forces attempting to suppress indigenous hunting, something that had been practiced for many years. Not only have their traditions been stripped from the indigenous people, but Western culture has also been imposed on them. Another way Aboriginal people were acculturated was through changes in placeholding density within Aboriginal communities. Colonial contact also shifted the property density of the location creating new city cemeteries where Aboriginal burials, as well as schools, shops, etc. began to take place.
