Gambling has existed since 2300 BC It has its positive and negative effects; it also has a rather positive impact on the economy. It stimulates most communities by creating jobs and generates tax revenue for state and local governments. Even though gambling can bring a lot of economic growth to the economy, today there is still debate whether legalizing it everywhere is a good choice. There are several positive effects that gambling has along with its positive impact on economic development. In some areas of the United States gambling has been embraced and promoted as a legitimate economic development strategy. It helps the unemployed and underemployed by providing them with jobs that receive extraordinary benefits. It helps the real estate business in the areas where casinos are built, it is very likely that there is a hotel somewhere nearby.
