The Canterbury Tales are an accumulation of stories of many pilgrims as they make their journey to the site of the shrine of Sir Thomas to Becket, for he was the holy martyr of Christianity. There are many stories included in the Canterbury Tales. Of these many tales, one of them is the story of the Wife of Bath, whose real name is Alisoun. From her appearance and behavior, to her political and religious views, there is a lot to say about the Wife of Bath, as her prologue and short story are quite long. The Wife of Bath is a very interesting character. In addition to Alisoun as a person, her story is also fascinating, with a surprising and gripping ending. (SparkNotes Editor) According to the story, the Wife of Bath has a very distinguished appearance. His handkerchiefs are of finely woven cloth, and his closely tied stockings are of the finest scarlet. Her shoes are soft and new, and her heels are highly stimulated. He has a bold and beautiful face, red in color, with a gap between his teeth. She also wears a scarf that covers her head, neck, and chin, as well as a hat as large as a shield. It is worn with a flowing cloak that hides wide hips. Alisoun has a very specific behavior about herself. (Chaucer 106) Furthermore, the Wife of Bath has a very defined personality. She is, believe it or not, quite a dynamic character. For much of his story, he has a choleric personality type. Alisoun is extremely controlling and ambitious. He has a way of instilling his power in others and getting what he wants. He is very bossy over others. For example, she uses her sexual power as a tool to control her husband's actions by provoking him until he gets what he wants, which is usually money.
