My recent experience studying and working in China has accelerated my curiosity about the different forms of communication that exist between Eastern and Western cultures. Growing up in a bilingual family and studying English helped me quickly develop my writing and speaking, which complimented my Chinese language study. Studying Chinese, in turn, gave me the opportunity to travel and explore a new culture and in 2016 I won a scholarship for a language year with "Nanchang University" in the Chinese city of Nanchang. During the Chinese language course I improved my speaking skills tremendously and got a real insight into the culture by learning the Chinese language and more importantly some of the local history by visiting some Chinese cities and witnessing the national holidays. Both my knowledge of the Chinese language and my oral eloquence were highly appreciated by my teachers and fellow students. But my sense of accomplishment also comes from many other aspects, more or less related to the Chinese language and communication. In September 2018, after graduation, I received a job offer from Shenzhen-based Dalian trading company and returned to China. I started as a translator and later got the position of assistant conference and event manager. Now my tasks include translating documents, business proposals, correspondence and manuals, and participating in business planning. Since the company's business sector is wholesale trade between China and other countries, I have gained important knowledge about intercultural communication.
