The first movie I decided to watch was Crash. I picked this movie first because the title intrigued me, then I did more research on the movie and was excited to watch it for myself. The Americans were hostile and rude towards these people of different races, as seen in the film. The film then goes on to show the perspective of two African American males. These two males are discussing the stereotypes that come with being a black male. A rich man and his wife cross paths with them on the streets of Los Angeles. When the wife surpasses men, she clings to her husband and feels unseemly uncomfortable. The two men notice the way he starts acting when he sees them on the street. Once the couple gets into the car, the two men open the doors and point a gun to each other's heads. The couple gets out of the car and the two African Americans steal their car. This scene demonstrates the extreme stereotypes that are not only applied to African Americans but also to African American men. There are many different scenes in the film that show how society treats all different races. Some people in society feel superior to others and the film demonstrates this thought perfectly. Shawshank is a terribly harsh environment, with abusive guards, brawls, and frequent situations that include sexual assault. From the beginning of the film Andy becomes the target of sexual assault by men in prison known as "The Sisters".
