Capital of the New Aquitaine region and sixth largest city in France, Bordeaux has attracted hundreds of thousands of tourists thanks to its high-quality wine, strong cultural atmosphere and heritage historical scenarios every year. Historical Places and Cultural Repositories During our visit, we are also pleased to visit the historical places and learn about their historical and cultural significance. For example, Roquetaillade Castle was a military castle for defense against invasions. Built on a wide prairie, the castle cuts the passage to the inner continent, protecting French citizens and nobility in ancient times. What struck me a lot is their engineering vision of the architectural structure. The roof of the castle hall adopts a two-way rope structure, and the drawbridge rigidly connects the main tower. This way the castle is carefully protected because enemies cannot enter the castle when the suspension bridge is raised. From my engineering aptitude (since I am an engineering student), the designer of Roquetaillade Castle clearly followed the principles of the barrel effect and paid great attention to the weakest point: the drawbridge. Furthermore, compared to China, we also understood that the ancient French have always cared about the preservation of cultural heritage, even if they suffered the damage of the French Revolution. Over the past few hundred years, the French have made almost no changes to their historic buildings and relics, leaving us with an authentic place to visit and discover.
