Topic > History of Chemistry: Chemical Weapons - 798

Chemical weapons are deadly, inhumane, unsafe, and excessive. They are considered WMDs (weapons of mass destruction) and have been on the rise since the early 1900s. These weapons are proof past and present that chemistry can transition into technology. And they have a huge impact on society for decades. Chemical weapons originated at the beginning of the First World War. They were simple grenades or mortars filled with common chemicals. These specialized grenades were popularized by the Germans and were later used by the Allied forces as well. They were made popular by their area of effect and useful in trench warfare. There are different types of chemical weapons and they all have different effects on victims. All effects are extremely painful and terrifying. There are blistering agents, nerve agents, blood agents, and suffocating agents. All these agents are formed chemically and illegally. The first is blistering or blistering agents. These contained mustard gas or C4H8Cl2S. He left his victims covered in water blisters that were painful beyond belief. These blisters are caused by chemicals that increase the skin's sensitivity to light, causing it to burn severely. Then there are nerve agents, which are considered organophosphates. Nerve agents work by blocking the flow of ACh, which is responsible for muscle contraction. When carried out, it leaves you without control of your body, leading to a slow and painful death. Then there are the blood agents. Blood agents are fast-acting positions, of the cyanide or arsenic type. They work quickly and enter the bloodstream. In short-term exposure it can only cause dizziness and nausea. But in the long term it can cause brain damage and muscle paralysis. Last but not least are the choking agents. The suffocating age... half the documents... on its citizens in early 2013. I think chemical weapons will have a negative impact on the future of society. Even though we have learned our lesson about how dangerous they are and outlawed them, I still think they will reappear. And next time they will be even stronger thanks to technological advances. Maybe we'll see them in the next big war or if governments fall, so will laws and they can now be used by militias thanks to technology that makes them easier to make. I think big governments are the only thing that keeps them in check. Chemical weapons are incredibly dangerous and deadly weapons of mass destruction. They can kill hundreds of people in an area in less than seconds. All while they have no idea. This is proof that progress in chemistry and technology should be controlled and that not all chemical history is good history.
