Topic > Differences in Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God
The reader can sense the time period differences in the writings of these two men. “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” was a sermon by a pastor used to revive people's faith in following God. The audience is approached with a calm tone that requires them to pay close attention to what is being said. On the other hand, when you read Hawthorne's work there is a more disturbing feeling because he is talking about dealing with evil rather than good. “Young Goodman Brown” used allegory to keep the character aware of who was influencing him. As an author, Hawthorne makes his audience aware of the people he associates with because he suggests that people may not be that of their social stature.
