In my opinion, the media has a great influence on how we see men and women in today's society. We are faced with advertisements, television programs, magazines and films that describe how we as human beings should act. For years the media has portrayed women as housewives who usually stay at home and take care of the home and family. Rarely, nowadays, do you see a woman working to earn a living for her family and a man at home with children. Women are sexual symbols; they sell advertisements for clothing, cars, cigarettes and household items. Almost everywhere you turn you will see a woman selling some type of product. In today's society, boys become men when they reach puberty or lose their virginity. But women instead become women when they get married and have children. It was well known that men earn more in the workplace and hold higher positions. For years women have not been able to do anything, they have no say nor can they vote. Women were expected to remain silent when a problem arose and not speak out about what they believed. It was the stereotype that “a woman's place was in the home”.
