Different types of habits are one of the main components in sculpting and defining an individual's character. Through one's habits, others have the ability to better understand who the person really is and what they are really like. In today's world, many individuals strive to be very successful and effective in their society. Therefore, they must work to shape themselves by acquiring certain qualities and characteristics. Proactivity is an essential component that greatly influences the decisions we as individuals make in life. Being proactive is defined as a habit in which one must take initiative and become responsible. Proactive people have the propensity to choose their responses and actions despite their surroundings. They are generally very optimistic and driven to make things happen. This type of habit ultimately leads to a result that the person is satisfied with. Covey suggests that the people who end up in good professions are those who are proactive. These people take initiative and do everything they can to get the job done successfully. For me, during my senior year of high school, the class of 2011 suffered greatly academically as the country became unstable due to violent protests. This resulted in her not going to school for weeks due to the severity of the situation. Unfortunately, the IB exams were only a few months away and students needed to be prepared. Despite the instability of my environment, I began to take full initiative and responsibility in my studies by seeking alternative ways to help me earn the diploma I worked diligently towards. Being driven and motivated are key characteristics that a... ....middle of paper ......ye help me accomplish tasks and studies in a steady and smooth flow. To recap, Covey suggests that there is a particular set of habits that individuals must develop over the course of their lives in order to become highly effective people. Being proactive, putting things first, seeking first to understand and then to be understood, creating synergy and sharpening the saw are five of the seven fundamental habits that Covey talks about in his book. I chose these five habits because I have found that they have played a significant role in my past experiences. I hope to be able to incorporate them in the future, both in my work and with the people around me. After reading this intriguing and informative book, I learned that something crucial comes from every habit. I hope these valuable habits will help me transform into an effective person in the future.
