Relationships between men and women in Genesis Relationships between men and women in Genesis are characterized by deception and lies on the part of women. Women in Genesis were originally explained as being created as helpers to men. Women were supposed to depend on men and not think for themselves. God explained this by saying, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a suitable helper';(Genesis 2:18). However women in Genesis always use their femininity to deceive men in different ways not only to help themselves but sometimes also their loved ones. This is a contradiction to God's purpose for women. There are many examples of deception in Genesis, but I will focus on the stories of Adam and Eve, Rebekah and Isaac, Rachel and Laban. Eve is the first woman created in Genesis. She serves as a role model for all the women in Genesis, yet not a very respectable one. Eve is supposed to have been deceived by the serpent. I disagree, Eve knew she should not eat from the tree in the middle of the garden, and in fact she said this to the serpent: "It is only concerning the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden that God said, 'Thou shalt not take any of it. ye shall eat and not touch it, lest ye die." (Genesis 3:25) This, however, did not stop her from eating from the tree. Then, after eating the apple, she knew it was the wrong thing to do some of the apple without even tell him what it was. Adam took the apple by trusting Eve's judgment and not asking questions. Eve intentionally tricked Adam into eating the apple so that she would not be all alone in her mistake. God then punished both Adam and Eve for eating the apple while it was Eve's deception that led Adam to eat the apple. Adam was innocent of sin, guilty only of having fallen for his wife's deception. The story of Rebekah and Isaac was the terrible story of a wife who deceived her husband and cheated on her eldest son. Rebekah preferred Jacob, her second son, to Esau, her eldest son. Isaac told Esau to go find a meal, bring it back, and prepare it for him. Isaac would then bless Esau with the Lord's approval. Rebekah above Isaac tells this to Esau and says... halfway through the card... that he stole the idols, which he didn't. Laban searched everywhere in the camp, even Rebekah's tent. Then he lied and deceived his father by saying: "Do not take my lord amiss if I cannot rise before you, for the period of women is upon us."; Because she was sitting on idols and did not want to resist Laban she did not find the idols. Rebekah is using her femininity to deceive a man. It's not just a person deceiving another person, it's a woman using feminine traits to deceive a man who doesn't have them. This clearly shows that women are deceitful. I think I have shown through my examples that Genesis described women as very deceitful and deceitful. Not only were women in general deceitful, but they used their femininity to deceive and lie to men who failed to detect their lies. Eve, Rebekah, and Rachel were just some of the women in Genesis who deceived men using their femininity. Women used everything from their confidence, to their cooking and dressing skills, to their menstrual cycle to lie and deceive men. Relationships between men and women in Genesis were characterized by deception and lies on the part of the women.
