Government is present in all aspects of daily life. The quality of life depends on the effectiveness of a government in governing and leading its people. It is difficult to find good leaders who actually make decisions that benefit the people and ensure the prosperity of their country. There are many types of government and each of them has a favorable characteristic that makes them seem superior to others, but some governments are better than others. In terms of its effectiveness and its way of life, a totalitarian government is better than a democracy. In Animal Farm, a major cause of Napoleon's power over all animals was his use of propaganda, a classic totalitarian tool. He used it to manipulate the uneducated animals into trusting the lies he was feeding them. In many parts of the book, he ordered Squealer to give the animals false information about the conditions on the farm and tricked the animals into believing that they were living a good life. His use of propaganda was effective and none of the animals questioned his rule and they never saw the injustice being done to them. The same mistreatment occurs in many totalitarian governments, one of which is North Korea. The “Hermit Kingdom” is one of the terms given to North Korea because the country is literally in a world of its own. Kim Jong Un bans all communications from outside his walls, and the only news Koreans can read is a government-backed newspaper, similar to the Soviet Pravda. Every person in North Korea is fiercely loyal to Kim Jong Un, and that's exactly what he wants. The reason the Korean people are so loyal to their leader is because they don't know any better. A totalitarian government spreads propaganda and keeps its people in the middle of the paper. Furthermore, most of the money in America belongs to the 5% of its population, the rich or the “upper class”. The upper classes in America are very privileged, but the other 90% of the American population relies on food stamps and is homeless. Unlike a democracy, there is no discrimination regarding social classes because in a totalitarian government money is distributed equally among everyone; therefore there is no social classification of “upper, middle and lower class”. Everyone is the same. Many people argue that a totalitarian government is cruel and very corrupt. Dictators are always criticized because their actions are not for the good of the people, but a democracy is no different from a totalitarian government; the only difference is that people living in a totalitarian government are equal, productive, and stable; something that cannot be said for people living in a democracy.
