F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby distinguishes its characters by how much money they have. The world may revolve around money, but that doesn't mean that money means everything, and Fitzgerald conveys this theme to his readers very well by simply telling a story all about money. Money is the main concern of many characters, all from different classes, including Tom and Daisy who were born rich, Jay Gatsby who worked himself to earn his money and, finally, there is George Wilson who has little money despite working hard. None of these characters mentioned come out happy, demonstrating that money alone does not make a person happy. Not to mention how starting with that money can greatly affect someone's personality. Tom is stubborn and cheats on Daisy constantly, while Daisy only leans on Tom for support and is painfully superficial as she is in a relationship herself which makes her hypocritical. That's all they really have to worry about, although since a nanny looks after their children, they can pay for anything they destroy and appear to face no consequences. Given that Daisy decided it was a good idea to drive while being dragged through a city, resulting in Myrtle's death, it makes me sick to think that she barely spared a thought about it afterward. Why would she worry about killing someone, if she gets into trouble she could just buy her way out of it, probably for less than her $350,000 pearl necklace that Tom bought her. Just because Tom and Daisy don't have a care in the world doesn't make them happy. They don't really act like they love each other, they are drunks with little to no singularity and are never satisfied with what they have based on how they cheat, buy their entertainment and have no responsibility. Spoiled from birth, Tom and Daisy don't seem like happy people throughout The Great Gatsby despite having more money than they'll ever use. Their rich counterpart, however, has a sense of responsibility, but is not exactly overjoyed
