When Huck Finn achieves the "freedom" of Jackson's Island he believes he has fulfilled his American destiny by imposing his will on the world. Indeed, Huck assesses his situation when he arrives on the island as follows (Kravits): “But the next day I went to explore the island. I was the head of it; it all belonged to me, so to speak, and I wanted to know everything; but above all I wanted to spend time” (Twain). Huck met Jim on Jackson's Island. Huck and Jim quickly establish the reason for their mutual trust (Sloane). The island is safe and there is enough food for them. Huck and Jim were convinced that they would have their own world (Kravits). Unfortunately, the citizens who search Jackson's Island to find Jim, there is a cash reward for Jim (Sloane). The two fugitives began to drift where no fugitive slave should go
