Review of the film “The Secret Life of Bees” “The Secret Life of Bees” is a film that takes us through the incredible journey of a young girl named Lily Owens. He grows up with the horrible memory of the day he accidentally killed his mother. She and the family maid who tried to fill her mother's empty void, Rosaleen, escape the mistreatment Lily receives from her father, T-Ray. After Rosaleen heard the news on TV about the passage of the Civil Rights Act, she decided to seize the opportunity and register to vote. When they arrived in town to record Rosaleen, she spilled the juice from her chewing container on the men who were teasing her. She was arrested and that's when they ran away. When Lily asked her father for more information about her mother, he told her that on the day of her death she would come back for her things. She tells Lily that her mother didn't want to take her with her when she left. This upset Lily because she believed that a child could not have two parents who did not love her. Lily has very little of her mother's possessions, but the few items she does have include the gloves, the photo, and a wooden picture of her mother. Black Mary. Tiburon, SC was engraved on the back of the wooden image. This became their destination point when they left Lily's hometown. When they reach Tiburon, they stop at a convenient store and Lily notices that the same image that is on her wooden picture is also on the honey jars. They investigate and are led to a house where the "Calendar sisters" live. These three incredible women help Rosaleen and Lily by letting them stay with them in their bright pink house. This is where the two discover all about bees and how they function as a society... middle of paper.... Lily can stay in a home that makes her feel loved. She writes her story, including her thoughts and emotions, in a book given to her by Zach. This film is set in South Carolina in 1964. This was the height of racism in the South. ("Do Something.org") Many African Americans found support in a nonviolent African American activist named Martin Luther King Jr. The result of all the civil rights movements led to the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964.
