Effective Writing Strategies at the College Level When asked about effective writing, many people answer that it is the act of putting thoughts together in a logical manner. This answer is too narrow because it suggests that effective writing is just a matter of getting the writing code right. It also suggests that writing degenerates from thinking, which is not the case. While the definitions of effective writing have nothing to do with effective writing itself, there are various points of effective writing that can be used to achieve effective writing. In simple terms, effective writing material must be planned, organized, reviewed, and appropriately edited. In writing, the writer must begin with prewriting. This means that the writer has to brainstorm and collect the required parts in time. One of the most common mistakes people make when writing is failing to prepare in time. When you fail to plan in time, it means that the writing will be done in a hurry and sometimes the writing may lack objectivity (Carey & Fowler, 1986). When the writer has a basic understanding of the content of the writing, he or she is able to refine ideas and combine them to produce a quality article. For example, an article that refers to previous research is considered objective because the analysis of the situation will not only be based on the perspective of the author alone, but will be complemented by reliable research. Organization is also important for effective writing. There will be no point in doing proper research unless the information is presented in a less organized way. Effective writing requires that the writer's thoughts, as well as the borrowed information, be presented in a logical and low-key manner.
