Children are under attack! But this attack does not come from terrorists inside or outside the borders. It does not come from disturbed or mentally unstable people in a community. This assault comes from our own American popular culture. This assault is always present, intense and relentless, even masked; Most parents can no more perceive the damage that pop culture is inflicting on their children than a fish can perceive that its ocean is becoming increasingly polluted. In both cases, the attack is slow but steady, seemingly unnoticed. Many seem to have been fooled into believing that popular culture cares about our children, when the truth is quite the opposite. Pop culture only cares about a few things: money, gossip, and who is on the road to ruin, and will say and do anything to make more money, to get more gossip, and to get more information. When the first generation of Americans were growing up, pop culture was fine: They had a handful of television and radio stations regulated “in the public interest” and offering a variety of mostly positive programming. Today, kids have hundreds of television and radio stations offering entertainment that celebrates greed, brazen sexuality and violence, the Internet, video games, cell phones, often inappropriate celebrities on social media, and magazines on newsstands full of scandals and gossip. . Pop culture's attack on society is evident and everyone should be aware of its influential presence. But how can people do that if they don't know how to identify it? Popular culture, by definition, is “a contemporary way of life that is generally accepted by a large population of people.” However, it has a more common definition. It's......middle of paper......! However, the American public is already brainwashed and is most likely completely unaware of the dangers Hollywood poses to citizens. If all of this is publicized, and it is, then the next generation of American teenagers and children will be exposed and influenced by it. I'm leaving. It's awfully similar to the propaganda exploited by the Hitler Youth during World War II, except that pop culture is always around them, 24/7, especially with the convenience afforded by mobile devices. They will soon become celebrities because of their actions, addictions and life choices, which may be completely wrong. They will see how celebrities spend their money - recklessly and consistently - and this will become what they will do every time they get a paycheck. They hear the gossip and see the things celebrities do on television. Children are under attack!
