Topic > The debate between criminal nature and criminality...

In the mid-19th century there was a debate between criminal nature and criminal education. One of the groups, biologists, believes that the genetic mutation that leads humans to commit crimes cannot be influenced by environmental causes. Another group, sociologist-biologists, believes that human behavior is caused by environmental influences. This essay examines the reasoning of each group and studies the different types of criminals. Below will be listed the reasons why criminals are in nature. First theory of William Sheldon, he is one of the American psychologists who study the human body throughout his life. Based on his study, he concludes that every human being is categorized into three types of human bodies: ectomorphic, endomorphic, and mesomorphic. The first two types of human bodies have a lower chance of committing crimes. However, mesomorphs are described as muscular, gain muscle easily, and have thick skin. In ancient times, William Sheldon uses a correlational study to find that a huge portion of inmates were mesomorphs. According to Sheldon, they are more likely to commit crimes or deviant behavior since they have great physical strength. An example would be Israel Keyes. He has enormous musculature and classifies him as a categorical mesomorph. Unfortunately in American, he was a serial killer, rapist and committed other crimes. Second theory of Lombroso, he is an Italian criminologist and founder of the Italian School of Positivist Criminology. Through his analysis, “he developed a theory of deviance in which a person's bodily constitution indicates whether or not an individual is a “born criminal” (Lombroso, 2000). Before establishing this theory, he made a comparison between soldiers and prisoners and... mid-paper... with his sister during middle school and middle school. The prime example would be Cameron Kocher Murder Case, incident that occurred in northeastern Pennsylvania, one of the names of the nine-year-old Cameron Kocher was accused of shooting to death a seven-year-old playmate. Cameron Kocher was playing video games with his fellow gamers at his house. After her playmate said she is better than him at games, she went riding snowmobiles with other friends. Cameron Kocher wanted to join her but his parents wouldn't let him join. In anger, Cameron Kocher retrieved his father's loaded rifle, pointed it out the window of his home and shot his playmate in the back. After the incident happened, Cameron Kocher without any remorse and yet told about it to another playmate. “If you don't think about it, you won't be sad.”
