Coronary Heart Disease Coronary heart disease occurs when the coronary arteries become partially blocked by cholesterol and fats circulating in the blood. This causes a buildup within the walls of the arteries. This only occurs if the levels of fat and cholesterol in the blood are extremely high and there is a greater likelihood of them being deposited on the walls of the arteries. If the arteries become completely blocked, the patient will have a myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack. A heart attack can cause permanent damage to the heart muscle and can sometimes be fatal if immediate treatment is not given. There are other contributing factors besides fat deposits that can cause coronary heart disease such as hypertension. The focus of this quote is that this disease is caused by the person who contracted it. However, this statement is not entirely correct because there is evidence to suggest that heart disease can occur due to uncontrollable circumstances; such as gender, heredity and age. In this essay I will evaluate both the controllable and uncontrollable circumstances that lead someone to suffer from coronary heart disease. Obesity is a risk where it is often caused by the person themselves. This is because it is under the control of the person. Therefore its decisions can be made without consultation. However, being overweight increases total cholesterol levels in the blood (2). The liver produces cholesterol from saturated fats in the blood; enters the blood and is transported by proteins known as “lipoproteins”. There are two types of lipoproteins, low density and high d...... middle of paper ...... along with environmental risks can both contribute to heart disease and the same symptoms. Bibliography1.
