This study aims to explain the importance of ethical business practices which also include social responsibilities and will be compared to an example of unethical business practice. It will explore the different unethical issues in business, the benefits of running an ethical business and this will be done with reference to a given case study. Ethics is a moral guideline that governs good behavior. For a company to behave ethically, it must follow strict guidelines that ensure the health, safety and human rights of every employee within the company. Unfortunately, there are many cases where some companies do not follow any ethical guidelines and it can often lead to the illness and/or death of some or all employees. One unethical issue that will be the focus of this study is sexual discrimination. . Employees are protected from all types of discrimination, which includes discrimination based on age, disability, race and sex, at all stages of the employment relationship, including hiring, firing and everything in between. Sexual discrimination is discrimination against people on the basis of sex and can affect their employment, pay or opportunities within the company and especially affects women. Sexual discrimination can include:• not hiring a woman because the employer believes she will not perform the traditional role of a man in the workplace• offering women different pay amounts and certain benefits than those offered to men• not promoting women women at a higher position level because she is a woman and employer believes that other staff will not respect her level of authority • initializing that women in the workplace wear a different type of uniform • and simply not considering women for particular rolesT...... middle of paper ......gather and retain employees and facilitate access to capital. It may disadvantage the company by increasing production costs and lost revenue, but it would keep Wal-Mart operating ethically. Ultimately, ethics are of great importance within a company as they determine the long-term success of the company. Wal-Mart should reevaluate what it considers ethical standards as it may fail to become the large retailer it aims to become.
