IntroductionCinderella is a children's fairy tale that shows love, loss and miracles; however, when analyzed further, it takes on a deeper meaning. Cinderella is the story of a young girl who became a maid in her home after her father remarried a mischievous woman with two spoiled daughters. She was humiliated and mistreated, but remained kind and gentle. She received help from her fairy godmother to go to the prince's ball after her stepmother rejected her proposal. Cinderella and the prince fell madly in love but she had to leave at twelve and forgot to tell him her name but left the glass slipper behind. He sent his servants to find her and Cinderella was the only girl in the kingdom to fit into the shoes. She was then freed from her stepmother and married the prince. This report will examine the key events and the main character through an anthological, psychological and sociological perspective. The Cinderella story demonstrated gender roles, family and marriage roles, conformity and obedience, Erick Erickson theory, and feminist theory. Anthropology Gender Roles Gender roles are the roles that an individual associates with being male or female. An individual's gender role is strongly influenced by the gender roles they were exposed to while growing up (gender and gender identity). In some cultures, men play a female gender role and vice versa. Gender roles are assigned to an individual because they begin at the time of birth. In modern society, those who display the opposite gender role are generally frowned upon as they do not “fit” society's expected behavior. Cinderella provides people with knowledge of what life was like at that age. After analyzing the story, Cinderella can strongly influence children and their behavior.
