Topic > Improving maternal and child health, the fifth goal of…

The LifeLine community health program provided loans to Ruth and Tage to expand their clinic and promote health services. The main goals of this program were to teach people how to prevent disease, maintain a healthy diet and good hygiene, treat common diseases, and help women start a small business to support their children's education. Families with extremely low incomes were able to obtain reduced rates for health services. This ensured that women and children had adequate access to healthcare, which is an important aspect of empowering the next generation. Partnering with LifeLine Network has provided Ruth and her family with great resources to reduce maternal and child health in the community and take a step closer to achieving the fifth Millennium Development Goal. Although this program has significantly reduced maternal and infant mortality, further developments and solutions are needed to promote the good health of the entire society and improve the socioeconomic status of the population.
