The main religion in medieval Europe is Christianity, and any other religion is considered offensive and wrong. According to Herder, environment and place play a huge role in someone's culture and mindset. As seen in the analysis of popular culture, it is understandable that due to the geographic region and events that occur, an entire society can easily be manipulated. It is very hypocritical of religious figures who publish folklore tales full of demonic creatures and yet they are the ones who try to suppress it. This calls for the “Triller effect” where the elites control the content, but continue to show supernatural elements to the public and at the same time try to suppress and profit from them. The elite is trying to colonize the popular elements and form their version of normal civilization. Since religion is such an important factor in everyone's life, regardless of social status, it becomes quite easy for the clergy to start controlling the situation. It seems clear that the Church has abused its power throughout history.
