Topic > My favorite work by Edgar Allen Poe Masque of the Red...

Edgar Allan Poe was famous for his poems, short stories, motifs, themes, etc. After reading three of his most famous works: “The Pit and the Pendulum”, “The Crow” and “The Masque of the Red Death”, I found that the “Mask of the Red Death” was my favorite. In this story, Edgar Allan Poe captivated the reader with his entire concept, his symbols, and the way he infused the story into an interesting and disturbing story. I believe Edgar Allan Poe did a great job in portraying the effects of the horrible disease Red Death. . Poe used a concept that everyone knows, a party, to show how subtle and powerful death was. Prince Prospero was the protagonist of “The Masque of the Red Death” and according to the text “he was happy, fearless and sagacious” (Poe 13). To escape the plague, Prince Prospero invited a thousand “living and carefree” friends and courtiers (Poe 13) to join him in his voluntary isolation Red. While the party and the plague continued to rule Prince Prospero and his friends, everyone began to feel nervous and agitated for an unknown reason. The tension caused by these feelings intensified when many members of the group became aware of a mysterious masked figure, who was subtly and silently spreading his presence (illness) throughout the castle. The dark masked figure was the Red Death itself. I loved this concept and plot because I believe it appropriately infused this death with a happy and joyful moment, which really showed the power and omnipresence of the Red Death during his reign. One of the main ways the power of the Red Death was shown was through the many symbols used by Edgar Allan Poe. But...... middle of paper ......of the people (even if the quote is inserted in the present and looking at the past). The Red Death was instrumental in European history and Poe did a wonderful and interesting job in exposing this history. The thing that really attracted me to this story was that I knew a lot about the plague and was able to make a lot of connections between "The Masque of the Red Death" and the story. This story shows how sneaky and powerful the plague was, it filters the story very well into an elaborate story. Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death" was my favorite of the three because it had an elaborate and compelling plot, wonderful symbols, and a very interesting story. All the themes, motifs and other elements used in this story really tied it all together and created a very bold, charming and somewhat historical story that I really enjoyed reading.
