Condominium development: the solution to high-density urban living. With all the industrialization and urbanization in today's world, population explosion has become a serious problem. Research indicates that the more developed a country is, the worse the situation it will face (Jensen, 1966). To gain more living space in this situation, architects attempt to build high-density condominiums instead of traditional houses. This assignment will first explain the development of residential construction and then demonstrate some of its applications in the urban area with high population density. Finally it will conclude with an evaluation of his contributions in the field of sustainable architecture and environment. To begin with, it is necessary to be clear about the definition of a condominium. An apartment is a self-contained housing unit that occupies only part of a building. Such a building can be called an apartment building. (Wikipedia,2013) Apartments began appearing around the world around the beginning of the 19th century. 1900s apartment divided into various typologies such as studio apartment, apartment with garden, apartment on two levels and services. However, the different types of condominiums pursue the same goal, namely to solve the problem of the population explosion. According to the population explosion theory, after the start of the industrial revolution, the population growth rate began to increase at an alarming rate. At the end of the century the world population was estimated at just under 1 billion. At the beginning of the 20th century, the world population was approximately 1.6 billion. By 1940 this figure had risen to 2.3 billion. The problem of overpopulation has attracted many c...... middle of paper ...... summer breezes can also be disturbed for nearby buildings. Finally, living in a condominium could lead to soundproofing and privacy issues. In summary, even if condominium development has some unsatisfactory aspects, it could still be considered a good solution to high-density urban living and one of the greatest technological achievements of the last century.
