There is this idea of the author, that when love is real it can transcend all boundaries, moreover, love, even if it is forbidden as in the case of Tristan and Iseult is always worth it. The love between the two is in contrast to Shakespeare's notion of love which cannot transcend physical qualities such as appearance. The author of Tristan and Isolde writes about a love between two characters that involved the love of the soul against the love of the body. Although the two stories show a contradiction in how love can be perceived, the two authors, in their own way, reflect on the tragic disease as the irrationality that can arise from love. Shakespeare shows love as a disease, something that afflicts people's senses causing them to look beyond beauty, reason, etc. While the author of Tristan and Isolde does not allude to love as a disease, the actions in which the two characters take part show how the power of love can lead an individual to do crazy things, such as murder, betrayal and commitment
